A Spring Saturday in Washington, D.C.

God is good. He gave us a perfect day today. We spent the morning down on the banks of the Potomac, watching a three-school crew regatta. It was between Yorktown HS (Katie Couric's school), Washington and Lee (Sandra Bullock's school), and Bishop O'Connell (our 17-year-old's school), all here in Arlington, VA.

The meet was arranged only recently to honor the memory of one of Bishop O'Connell's coaches who died last Fall. They hope to make this an annual event.

Flat Stanley and Flat Sophie are still with us, so they attended the event. They tried to sneak up on our 13-year-old . . .

. . . so they were relegated to their chair to keep them out of trouble.

Fashionable attire is a must for rowers . . .

. . . while Hubby sported his U.K. blue (still basking in the glory of the NCAA Championship--go Cats!), which matches Bishop O'Connell's colors.

And so, in the shadow of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the teams took to the water for their respective races.

Our daughter and her comrades rowed vigorously, and they rested at the end of their 2k race.

Afterwards, they carried their boat to the boathouse as a team. It is really fun to watch how they work in sync. I just wish that chores at home got done with such grace and skill. But I digress.

We made it home by noon, and spent the afternoon working in the yard. Tomorrow I will share pictures of our yard so you can see the progress we have made. It is really taking shape. We could use some rain. After all, April showers bring May flowers.

Tomorrow afternoon we are going to a Washington Nationals baseball game. They have won 7 of their first 9 games. It is an amazing start to the season. This is how we entertain ourselves at Nats games:

All except Dad/Hubby. He prefers Ben's Chilli Bowl.

We always have a good time at Nats games. Sometimes we meet a celebrity -- TJ!

Stay tuned!
